In May I attended my first Savor the Success event in NYC–an all-day program called Rock the World, which I thoroughly enjoyed (and blogged about). Last night I went to the organization’s monthly meeting hosted by founder Angela Jia Kim. The setting, 75 Wall Street – top floor – had a spectacular view of the East River. Here (in photo), featured speakers on the subject of branding gave a talk about packaging products for media attention.
The ride into Manhattan was fun as I was accompanied by Laurie Davis, aka the Glitter Fairy, and Kate Woodman of Sharp Hill Designs. Both are Premium Members, so I got all the details and a hunger for more. Riding home, we picked up two more passengers to Connecticut: Nancy Moon of Moon Public Relations and Robin Horton of Robin Horton Design and Urban Gardens. As Kate said in an email today, the ride was the best part. Which says a lot, because the event was really good. How rare is it to sit with five women (in an enclosed space) and share stories about business ownership! It’s where the truth comes out quickly and the intimacy of the details is savored.
So why would I join yet another network, especially one 50 miles from my home? The women! Everyone I met had an enthusiasm for entrepreneurship that I have not previously encountered. Angela radiates confidence, poise and intelligence. She gave a brief and crisp talk about midway through the evening. It was informative and to the point. She attracts good people and kept the flow of the night pulsing. No small feat.
Almost all of the attendees from Monday night’s event hung out for a long time after the official 7:30pm close. To me, that’s the sign of a successful program. If folks are streaming out the door at the final bell, you can be fairly certain that they weren’t fully engaged. But, when the crowd interacts and takes their time moseying out, it’s a measure of accomplishment.
Based on that theory, the Remarkable Women’s Network held at Troy Art and Framing in Fairfield was a resounding success. Denise DiGrigoli, pictured here in the middle between Leigh Scott of Leigh Scott Parenting and me, is the owner of Troy. She was our inspirational hostess.
At the centerpiece of her showroom was a stunning visual presentation Denise had just completed exhibiting the capacity and talents available at Troy. In addition to Denise’s computerized display of their capabilities, each woman attending had the opportunity to tell what she does and share recent good news. We heard breakthroughs, heartfelt happiness–like a child’s upcoming wedding–and positive financial reports. All of it positive and inspiring.
Nancy Moon, owner of Moon Public Relations–a PR firm in NYC and CT–always has her camera on hand and took the shot above before handing the camera off to Denise to capture us. At the end of the event, when I asked for feedback, Nancy said, “I’d love to attend these monthly.”
I’m working on it!

Vacations in our house have always been affectionately referred to as vaycos. Not sure how you’d spell it, but it’s pronounced like the title of this post. Being married to a public school administrator (English Department Chair–retired since 2001) for all these years, the closer the calendar got to spring vacation, summer break or the winter holidays, the more joyful the household became with the impending promise of time off.
Since my calendar is no longer defined by school breaks but by my own decision making, I have declared these last few weeks in June “time for fun.” So many people, who are more school calendar based, are in transitions–graduations, reunions, weddings, etc. I know it’s a good time to plan time off and not frustrate myself waiting for prospects to get back to me or lining up meetings.
I started my vay-co status last Friday accompanied by one of my closest friends. We trained into New York City to a Korean spa for an afternoon of massage, body scrub, facial, shampoo, sauna and steam bath ($130).
On Sunday I traveled to Provincetown with another good friend (Nancy Moon, who did the video clip above) where two more good friends own the Inn at Cook Street. We enjoyed each others’ company, great meals together (the breakfast at the Inn is awesome!), a walk up and down Commercial Street and the fresh Cape Cod air.
Tonight starts the most ambitious leg of vacation as I fly to Dublin to visit my dear friend Linda Carr, the woman who gave me the biggest boost in my early days as a craft artist. Now, 30+ years later, she’s living in Ireland for two years and has invited me to play tourist with her. I’m so excited to travel there for the first time and have nothing on my schedule but exploration, friendship and relaxation.
Since entrepreneurs create their own futures all the time, this is a reminder to establish vay-co time on your calendar. When I say, via my tag line, that I lead remarkable women to uncommon success, I’m simply doing my job by practicing self-care and sharing the journey with you.

There are two cool things for you to discover in this entry: Nancy Moon’s creative business offer and her applause-winning description of the outcomes from our goal-setting work together. (Click here to get right to her video clip.)
Because I surround myself with entrepreneurial women, I have the privilege of watching many small businesses up close. One trend I’m noticing, as a reflection of what’s going on economically, is the agile reshaping of business offers. I’m doing it myself, like switching the location of my goal-setting retreat from the luxurious Canyon Ranch setting to the more affordable Kripalu location.
The offer I’m focusing on in this entry is presented by my good friend, colleague and client PR maven Nancy Moon. You can read her bio (just click on her name) to see what outstanding credentials she has. She’s one of the most exciting people for me to talk to because she’s always on top of the latest news and trends. Nancy frequently forwards me email opportunities to become involved in emerging and vibrant networks, promotions and meetings with the media. She’s got her finger on the pulse of everything that is current in the marketplace.
Watch the video clip in which Nancy describes MOONLite. This is her scaled down and more affordable package. It’s for creative business owners who need Nancy’s services and can do a lot of the legwork themselves to save extra dollars.
The marriage piece? You’ll have to watch the video clip to find out about that!
